A recent update to Windows 11 has thrown a wrench into the gaming experience for many Ubisoft fans, particularly those keen on titles like Star Wars Outlaws.
Isn’t it typical with computers? We rely on them for everything, and then, out of nowhere, a minor update throws everything out of whack. While gaming might not be a life-or-death scenario, it’s certainly frustrating when your favorite pastime is disrupted. Following a Windows 11 update, a number of Ubisoft games have suddenly become unplayable. Gamers started realizing the issue with several Ubisoft games right after this update rolled out last week. Good news: Microsoft has finally identified the problem, acknowledging it’s the update causing these glitches, not your gaming setup.
According to a statement by Microsoft, “After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, some Ubisoft games might give you trouble.” Whether it’s while trying to start the game, during loading, or even in the middle of gameplay, these games might stop responding. In some scenarios, players even face a dreaded black screen. Microsoft has listed the impacted games: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and the upcoming Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
In its efforts to protect your Windows update experience, Microsoft has added a compatibility block for devices with these games. It means those devices won’t be prompted to upgrade to version 24H2 through the Windows Update channel. Microsoft recommends holding off on manually updating using Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool until they iron out this glitch.
Thankfully, Ubisoft has developed a temporary hotfix for the issue. However, they did admit that players might experience some performance hiccups while they fine-tune a long-term solution. Once ready, they’ll keep everyone in the loop. For now, your best bet might be diving into that daunting game backlog of yours while things get sorted out.
