If the limited screen size of current handheld devices has left you wanting more, Tencent might just have the answer. As reported by Videocardz, Tencent is introducing a new kind of handheld device that is akin to a portable console: the Sunday Dragon 3D One. This impressive gadget runs on an Intel Lunar Lake CPU and boasts an enormous 11-inch display, perfect for a deeply immersive experience—though it could be hefty to manage.
The 3D One is equipped with the Core Ultra 7 258V, featuring four P-Cores (Lion Cove) and four E-Cores (Skymont), alongside the Arc 140V integrated GPU packing eight Xe2 cores. From our thorough testing, it’s clear that Intel’s new Lunar Lake processors hold their ground against AMD’s Strix Point (Ryzen AI 300 APUs) for gaming performance. This device also comes with 32GB of LPDDR5X-8533 RAM—plenty for modern demands, though it’s soldered to the CPU, making upgrades impossible. Additionally, there’s a “high-speed” 1TB SSD listed in the specs, which should be upgradable if you’re in need of more speed or space.
An intriguing aspect of the 3D One is its potential to be the first Lunar Lake handheld hitting the market, should it release this year, as MSI’s Claw 8 AI+ has a planned launch no sooner than early 2025. However, don’t hold your breath just yet—Videocardz notes that the 3D One is currently just a prototype. With its large 11-inch, 2560×1440 display running at a 120Hz refresh rate, it could even serve as a substitute for a laptop given its sizing. In contrast, GPD’s upcoming Pocket 4 mini-laptops don’t venture beyond 8.8 inches. Another standout feature of Tencent’s new handheld is its real-time eye-tracking for a glasses-free 3D experience, known as autostereoscopy. Reports indicate Tencent is optimizing several titles, such as Path of Exile, Blade & Soul, and Arena Breakout: Infinite, to leverage this technology.
The built-in controllers are no slouches either; they’re fitted with Hall Effect joysticks, linear triggers, and two customizable rear buttons. Should these not meet your taste, you’re in luck—they can be detached, allowing you to substitute them with compatible third-party controllers. Furthermore, it supports 100W fast charging, although specific battery details remain under wraps.
Admittedly, the design choices for the 3D One stray into the unconventional. Typically, you’d expect handhelds to be comfortable and convenient for lengthy gaming sessions. Despite this, smaller screens can sometimes fail to capture the full scope and magnificence of games. As a prototype, the 3D One might face a limited release, both in production and geographic reach, likely catering to a very specific gaming audience.
