io9 has an exclusive first look at an exciting new video that’s all about the upcoming video game adaptation, Borderlands. In collaboration with Light Sail VR, Roth captured some jaw-dropping footage right from the set, featuring big names like Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, and Ariana Greenblatt. While this footage was crafted with VR in mind, don’t worry if you’re viewing it on a standard screen—it’s still pretty impressive.
“I’ve always been a major enthusiast for VR,” Roth shared in a statement, “and since 2018, I’ve played around with a GoPro 360. When the pandemic hit and set visits became off-limits, I wanted to gift fans a glimpse into the world of Borderlands. Our incredible art team in Budapest brought the sets to life, and you get to see the actors in their element, rehearsing stunts like Cate Blanchett and Ariana Greenblatt leaping from a truck bed. With my buddies at Light Sail VR, we created something that puts you smack in the middle of the action. You can really feel what it was like to be on set with us in the vibrant, chaotic Borderlands universe.”

In Borderlands, the story kicks off with a renowned bounty hunter played by Blanchett, who heads back to her home planet, Pandora. Her mission? To track down the missing daughter of the villainous Atlas, played by Edgar Ramírez. Along the way, she teams up with a diverse band of characters, embarking on a quest that unravels one of Pandora’s significant secrets. Joining the adventure are Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Gina Gershon, and Jamie Lee Curtis. Get ready for its release on August 9.
