Independent game platform itch.io has recently announced that their next Creator Day will take place on November 29. According to a report from Engadget, this means that any purchase you make on that day will see 100% of your money going straight to the game developers, as itch.io will be waiving its usual 10% fee.
This Creator Day conveniently coincides with itch.io’s annual Autumn Sale, which kicks off on November 27 and runs through December 5. The sale promises a vast array of contributions from its massive developer community, with over 7,400 projects on offer. These include not just digital and physical games but also resources for crafting your own unique games.
Itch.io initiated Creator Day back in 2021 as a response to the challenges developers faced during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The intention was to provide some much-needed financial support to those struggling during tough times.
As Spencer Hayes, itch.io’s director of business and content, explained to Polygon, “Our community supports us every day, and we wanted to show our appreciation by giving something back. It’s a tough world out there for many, and this is our way to help out.”
Itch.io is already recognized for its fair revenue-sharing practices, with only a small 10% cut taken from sales—a much better deal for developers compared to platforms like Steam, the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, and Apple’s App Store. Events like Creator Day and various charity drives distinguish itch.io by going above and beyond, truly setting it apart from other major competitors in the industry.
