When it comes to Final Fantasy 7 Remake, additional content was part of the package, but fans eagerly anticipating DLC for Rebirth will need to adjust their expectations. The director, Naoki Hamaguchi, has made it clear that DLC won’t be part of the plan this time around, but there’s a rationale behind this decision.
After the launch of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, it didn’t take long for fans to start speculating about the possibility of DLC additions. The previous Remake had seen some during the intermission, so it felt like a natural progression. However, in a recent chat with the Daily Star, Hamaguchi laid those DLC hopes to rest. He acknowledged the strong demand from fans, explaining, “Sure, we hear you loud and clear. But in my view, what the fans truly crave isn’t more DLC. It’s the third installment of the series that they’re really itching to get their hands on.”
Hamaguchi elaborated further on the team’s decision: “That’s actually why we’re channeling our efforts differently. We want to prioritize getting that third game out there swiftly, so diverting resources to DLC just doesn’t fit into our current agenda.” It’s a decision that makes sense when you think about it.
The Yuffie DLC from Remake served as a delightful bridge between chapters, and some might wonder about other characters like Cid or Vincent Valentine who could get their own spotlight moments from Rebirth. Yet, let’s be honest, the potential for standalone adventures might be more limited. And with Vincent, there’s always the chance that Square Enix might revisit Dirge of Cerberus, perhaps offering a remaster akin to the Crisis Core: Reunion. Here’s hoping for the fans itching for that classic revival!
This week, our team member Dom had a conversation with Hamaguchi to sneak a peek at what’s brewing for the mini-games in the series’ final chapter. Rest assured, there are interesting changes on the horizon!
