Bigscreen Beyond is making waves in the VR world as an impressively compact and feather-light SteamVR headset, designed specifically to promise hours of comfortable PC-based VR experiences without the usual strain.
At a price tag of $1000, or an option of $32 per month, Beyond does not initially include positional tracking or controllers. It operates with the SteamVR tracking system, meaning you’ll need at least one base station—preferably two for better accuracy—along with your own controllers, such as those from Valve Index.
The design is straightforward, coming with a basic cloth strap and lacking built-in audio capabilities. There’s no headphone jack either, but they’ve included a USB-C port for audio connectivity. To enhance both sound and comfort, Bigscreen offers an additional Audio Strap accessory for $130.
In our review, Beyond stood out for its portability and outstanding physical comfort, making extended VR sessions a breeze without the discomfort common with other headsets. That said, we did notice some drawbacks, particularly the lenses, which, in their quest for compactness, tend to create distracting reflections and blurring. Despite this, Beyond marks the start of a new era of headsets focused on comfort, setting a precedent for upcoming models in the industry.
