We jump into a scene featuring two distinct groups: Sonic and his pals, and Robotnik’s crew. Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails, decked out in his jetpack, effortlessly dash through the lush landscapes of Green Hill. Meanwhile, something’s a bit off with the setup on Robotnik’s side – there’s a curious gap in the lineup of the two Robotniks, Shadow, and Agent Stone. Could it be that Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which we all hope is drawing from Sonic Adventure 2, might be missing a key character from the story: Rouge the Bat?
Rouge, the cunning treasure hunter who goes toe-to-toe with Knuckles in the classic Dreamcast game, seems to be MIA in this film adaptation. It’s a bit of a letdown if her exciting debut alongside Shadow is overlooked. Yet, there’s a glimmer of hope – maybe the filmmakers are pulling a Spider-Man: No Way Home trick, editing her out of the trailers to surprise us when the film hits theaters. Then again, who knows? Perhaps the mysterious vacancy is reserved for Metal Sonic, as fan theories suggest. Ever since the first teaser dropped, the buzz has been that this synthetic speedster is set to appear, maybe here, maybe in the sequel.
Considering Robotnik might switch allegiances in this film, it would be totally in character for him to whip up Metal Sonic. However, cramming this storyline into a Sonic Adventure 2 adaptation might make everything feel a bit crammed, especially with Shadow already in the villain role. Honestly, fingers crossed it’s Rouge making her glamorous entrance.
