Microsoft recently issued a warning about a hiccup with the new Windows 11 update that might spoil your gaming experience if you’re a fan of Ubisoft titles like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. The announcement came out on November 22, putting gamers on alert.
The company stated, “With the installation of Windows 11, version 24H2, you could run into some trouble with specific Ubisoft games.” This could mean anything from the games not responding during startup, loading, or even during gameplay. Some users might even face the dreaded black screen.
In response, Ubisoft quickly rolled out a hotfix for the bugs affecting Star Wars Outlaws, right on November 21, just after their update focused on stealth mechanics. However, Microsoft pointed out that performance issues might linger. They’ve now placed a compatibility block on PCs that have these Ubisoft games installed until a more permanent fix can be devised.
Microsoft advises users, “It’s best to avoid manually upgrading to version 24H2 with the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or media creation tool for now, until we get this sorted out.”
For those caught in the middle and unable to exit their game smoothly, Microsoft suggests using Task Manager to close the task through the Process tab. Although given the tech-savvy nature of Millennials, this advice might be more geared towards helping older or younger users.
The rollout of Windows 11, version 24H2, started on October 1, and it’s still a mystery which specific feature clashes with Ubisoft’s creations. With computers being so unpredictable, my wild guess would be the “more streamlined File Explorer,” whatever mystery that entails.
