The release of Hitman World of Assassination on PlayStation VR2 has been pushed back to next year. Initially announced during the State of Play in September, IO Interactive had planned for the trilogy to hit the VR platform this December. However, the release has now been rescheduled to March 27, 2025. The company explained that the delay is intended to enhance the overall experience and introduce new features such as active manual reloading.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, IO Interactive elaborated on its decision. “First and foremost, we need to talk about the change in our release schedule,” they stated. “Originally, we aimed for a December 2024 launch for Hitman World of Assassination on PS VR2, but we’ve now postponed it to March 27, 2025. This wasn’t a call we made easily; there’s been tremendous interest in seeing Hitman on PS VR2, and the excitement after our announcement was thrilling.”
The blog post continued, emphasizing the studio’s commitment to delivering a top-notch gaming experience. “Our goal is to provide a game that lives up to the high expectations of our players. With the extra time, we can polish the game to perfection—ensuring it’s immersive and seamless—while also adding some features we were eager to include in the PS VR2 version, like active reloading.”
This venture marks IO Interactive’s third attempt to bring the popular Hitman series to virtual reality, following previous releases for Quest and PC VR/PSVR. The forthcoming edition will pack in all the main levels from the rebooted trilogy and offer new gameplay mechanics such as dual-wielding, room-scale play, and an array of fresh controls.
Additionally, the PlayStation VR2 version of Hitman World of Assassination will introduce intriguing “positional interactions.” Instead of simply pressing a button, players will engage physically with the environment—think swiping a keycard or pouring poison into a glass. Quest items will now be tactile, allowing players to interact with them in-hand, adding another layer of realism to the game.
For those eager to dive in, Hitman World of Assassination will be available on March 27, 2025, for PlayStation VR2. Players who already own the non-VR version on PS5 can purchase this enhanced experience as a $10 upgrade pack.
