Netflix has given us another glimpse into the much-anticipated second season of Squid Game. While there are familiar elements, a lot of new twists have been introduced.
We’re just about a month away from being able to dive into the next round of Squid Game, and a fresh trailer from Netflix is here to whet our appetite. This sneak peek gives us a taste of the intense challenges awaiting the fictional contestants. Remember that eerie giant robot girl from the first season? The one where you had to freeze when she wasn’t looking, or else? Well, she’s back, and this time, we see Seong Gi-hun trying, in his own way, to guide the newcomers through it.
Among the changes, there’s an intriguing new look at games where players are split into X and O teams. One can’t help but wonder if this is a nod to the divide between the wealthy and working class. There’s also a game involving a merry-go-round, but throughout it all, Gi-hun seems to be pushing for a revolt to put an end to these brutal games once and for all.
Netflix’s official synopsis brings us up to speed on the stakes: “Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) is back, entangled in a tense struggle with the elusive Front Man (Lee Byung-hun). As the games evolve, the danger escalates, with Gi-hun striving to stop the vicious cycle for good. Can he succeed, or will yet more lives be lost to this cruel system?” Lee is one of the few faces returning from the original cast, and he’s joined by a slew of new characters—among them, a confident youth with purple hair and a mother-son team. One can only speculate whether the duo will find themselves on opposing X and O sides.
Mark your calendars for December 26, as Season 2 arrives on Netflix then. It’s not far off now!
