I’m diving into a review for Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island, and to get some insights, I had a chat with Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou, one of the co-founders of Polygon Treehouse. Let’s unpack what we discussed!
PS4Blog: Hey Alex! It’s great to reconnect. How are things going for you?
Thank you! It’s been a whirlwind since our last indie title, Röki, hit the scene. Mythwrecked has been exciting to work on, especially since it nudges us out of Scandinavian folklore and into a whimsical take on Greek gods living in the modern age!
PS4B: Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island is set to release on the Nintendo Switch on December 5. Can you share some details about what players can expect from this new adventure?
We like to call Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island an “explore-o-story” game. You step into the shoes of Alex, a traveler who’s on a break from everyday life. But a mysterious storm strands them on a forgotten island. Throughout the game, you’ll befriend Greek gods, revive their memories, and ultimately seek a way back home.
PS4B: How long has this project been in the works? How much did it evolve from your original vision to what we soon get to play?
This journey started around three years ago. The main pillars of the game, like the radar treasure hunts and the memory flashbacks, have remained consistent since the early days. However, the ‘Story Sandbox,’ which steers the interactions with the gods, saw numerous improvements. I’m pleased with its development, as it helps players feel genuinely immersed in the unfolding narrative.
PS4B: Röki had a physical release. Is there a similar plan for Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island?
I’m quite fond of physical editions, and having one for my debut game was a thrill. Currently, there’s no news about a physical version for Mythwrecked, but it’s definitely something I hope can happen down the line.
PS4B: As we wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to add?
Just a heartfelt thank you for checking in! If you’re into cozy games filled with mythology, adventure, and mystery, I’d recommend giving Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island a glance. We believe it’ll be a memorable indie adventure for all players!
