Baldur’s Gate 3 stands out as one of 2023’s most celebrated releases, amassing numerous Game of the Year accolades and leaving a significant mark on players worldwide. However, fans have been eagerly awaiting some much-requested features, which are finally making their debut in Patch 8.
What’s New in Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8?
Patch 8 is poised to be the next major update for this adored RPG, with a rollout expected early next year. Among its exciting additions are cross-play capability, a photo mode, and 12 new subclasses, ensuring the update will enhance gameplay across all platforms including the PS5.
According to the latest Baldur’s Gate 3 Community Update, cross-play is set to bridge the gap between different gaming platforms. Whether you’re playing on PS5, PC, Xbox, or Mac, you’ll soon be able to team up with friends regardless of their device. To take advantage of this feature, players will need to activate cross-play and set up a Larian Network account.
Adding a touch of creativity, the photo mode is also joining the party. It lets players capture memorable moments from their adventures, offering camera settings that allow focus on specific party characters, lens tweaks, scene adjustments, and post-processing effects. Players can add frames and stickers to their snapshots too. While this feature is accessible during both gameplay and cutscenes, do note that camera and lens settings remain fixed during cinematic moments.
The update doesn’t stop there; it introduces 12 fresh subclasses, each bringing new abilities, animations, visual effects, summons, and cantrips to the table. Here are the new subclasses heading to Baldur’s Gate 3:
- Bard – College of Glamour
- Barbarian – Path of Giants
- Cleric – Death Domain
- Druid – Circle of Stars
- Paladin – Oath of the Crown
- Fighter – Arcane Archer
- Monk – Drunken Master
- Ranger – Swarmkeeper
- Rogue – Swashbuckler
- Sorcerer – Shadow Magic
- Warlock – Hexblade
- Wizard – Bladesinging
Larian Studios plans to stress test Patch 8 with the help of interested PS5 players, who can register for testing kicking off in January. Keep an eye out for detailed instructions in their next Community Update.
