Microsoft had plans to roll out some exciting new features for the official Xbox app on Android through the Google Play Store by the end of 2024. However, eager users will have to wait until next year for these updates.
Sarah Bond, Xbox’s president, shared this disappointment on social media with news of an unforeseen delay. This pause stems from an administrative stay issued by U.S. courts, putting Microsoft’s plans on hold for now. Originally, Bond had announced back in October that the features would be ready by November, following a directive for Google to open its app store to third-party competitors.
“We at Xbox are committed to giving players more options for gaming, whether purchasing or playing directly through our app,” Bond expressed on X, formerly known as Twitter. “We were especially excited about unveiling these features on Google’s Play Store for Android users in the U.S., while other platforms align with such consumer demands.”
Despite the setback, Bond reassured fans, stating, “Though a temporary court order has delayed our initial timeline, we’re prepared to go live as soon as the legal situation is resolved. Our team is enthusiastic about offering this new level of choice and flexibility to our players.”
Stay tuned for further updates as they unfold.
