Just a couple of months after facing legal pressure from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, the creators of Palworld, PocketPair, have finally responded officially.
In their statement found on the company’s news page, PocketPair detailed the plaintiffs’ demands: they’re looking for an unspecified injunction to halt the game’s distribution, along with payments of ¥5 million (around $32,763 at current exchange rates) to both Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. The case centers around three specific patents, which were initially highlighted on Gematsu’s site.
These Japanese patents are labeled as JP7545191B1, JP7493117, and JP7528390. They were applied for at different times—July, February, and March of 2024 respectively—and received approval in subsequent months, namely August, May, and July. Meanwhile, Palworld made its debut in early access back in January, well ahead of these patent approvals.
