Great news for Final Fantasy 14 fans—soon, you’ll be able to dive into the expansive RPG/MMO right from your mobile device. No more lugging around your hefty setup or awkwardly propping doors open to catch a glimpse of your screen.
This exciting development was highlighted in a slick video presentation by FF14 director and producer, Naoki Yoshida, alongside a trailer showcasing the upcoming mobile adaptation. The game is being brought to mobile by Lightspeed Studios, a Tencent subsidiary. These folks have previously made a name for themselves working on PUBG Mobile, so they know a thing or two about mobile gaming.
Naoki Yoshida acknowledged that transitioning the extensive universe of Final Fantasy 14 to mobile required some modifications. “Despite the adjustments needed for mobile,” Yoshida shared, “Lightspeed Studios is diving in with immense passion and dedication. Our aim is to authentically bring over the story, battles, and other core elements of the game. I’m eager for both seasoned and new players to experience what’s next.”
The official website for Final Fantasy 14 Mobile reveals that upon launch, nine job roles from the original game will be accessible. Players can also enjoy in-game activities such as fishing, Triple Triad, and chocobo racing. Those who like crafting and gathering will find 11 classes available at the start, catering to all budding fishers, alchemists, and miners out there. Additionally, the game will offer home customization, perfect for those with a flair for interior design.
In a Twitter announcement, the game was revealed to bring the vivid world of Eorzea right to your handheld device. The visuals have been particularly detailed, featuring “intricate weather and time-of-day systems” that recreate a myriad of over 600 weather conditions across a variety of landscapes. Character and gear designs have been meticulously crafted to retain the exquisite detail found in the original game.
The game is designed to be enjoyed however you prefer, whether you’re flying solo or joining up with fellow adventurers. “You can navigate the game on your terms,” asserts the official site, “Meet friends, explore new territories, and share joyous moments, all while forging friendships that make Eorzea a warmer place.” All this, plus the convenience of handling your real-world needs simultaneously—a new kind of quest!
Though a specific release date hasn’t been unveiled, we’re told the game will debut in China before rolling out globally.
