The first glimpse of Seth Rogen’s new Apple TV+ series, The Studio, has dropped, and it’s packed with a star-studded cast, each taking digs at him in delightfully sharp ways.
While they’re not directly bashing Seth Rogen himself, the teaser sure does hint at a high-profile ensemble. The Studio, spanning 10 episodes, is a fresh creation from Rogen and his long-time collaborator Evan Goldberg. It casts Rogen as Matt Remick, the fictional boss of the equally fictional Continental Studios. According to the official synopsis, as the movie world struggles to keep its pulse, Matt and his team of bickering executives come to grips with their own shortcomings while trying to handle egocentric artists and greedy corporate players, all in the challenging quest to make standout films.
“For Matt, who’s practically made of celluloid love, every glamorous gala, frazzled set visit, nerve-wracking casting call, strategic marketing powwow, and star-studded award ceremony could spell either jackpot success or absolute disaster. It’s his life’s ambition, but it might just be his downfall,” elaborates another description of the series.
There’s no shortage of talent here. The cast lineup is impressive with Catherine O’Hara, known for Beetlejuice, and Kathryn Hahn, fresh from Agatha All Along, standing beside Rogen in leading roles. Not to mention guest appearances from Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad fame, plus industry heavyweights Ron Howard, Martin Scorsese, and Charlize Theron, who all join in on the parody, poking fun at Rogen’s character. In a notably cutting moment, Scorsese delivers a biting remark, calling him “talentless” and “spineless,” proving the veteran director hasn’t lost his touch.
This series looks like a comedic gem based on the trailer, and luckily, the wait isn’t too long. It’s due to hit Apple TV+ screens on March 26, next year.
