This achievement is further highlighted by reports from Pocket Gamer noting that the game is seeing impressive daily spending rates, positioning it to potentially rival the earnings of the massively successful Pokemon Go.
AppMagic’s data indicates that the game surpassed $100 million in gross revenue, with the total climbing even higher. Remarkably, on its most lucrative day, November 15, the game brought in approximately $8.2 million in revenue just from Google Play and the Apple App Store.
So, what’s driving this surge in spending? There are a few possibilities. Firstly, the game might simply be gaining traction, attracting a player base eager to invest in digital packs. Another factor might be the expiration of players’ free trials of the premium pass, spurring more people to subscribe. Alternatively, this increase could reflect more players deciding to spend money after enjoying the free-to-play elements. On a personal note, I too couldn’t resist and spent £30 trying to complete the Pokedex for a chance to catch Mew—alas, without success!
To put this into perspective, Pokemon Go generated around $550 million in 2016, with half a year to reach that sum. In comparison, Pokemon TCG Pocket has managed $120 million in under a month, suggesting it could meet or exceed those figures if it keeps up this momentum. It’s important to mention that the draw of opening packs is central to the Pokemon Pocket experience, unlike the early stage of Pokemon Go where spending wasn’t as motivated. However, considering the cultural phenomenon that Pokemon Go became, this rapid success of Pokemon TCG Pocket is truly impressive.
