Back 4 Blood hasn’t exactly been everyone’s cup of tea, with reviews all over the map. However, a quirky codename leaked recently, hinting at the possibility of a sequel brewing at Turtle Rock Studios.
Just last year, keen eyes noticed a job posting at Turtle Rock, suggesting the team was gearing up to dive back into the co-op zombie shooter world, reminiscent of Left 4 Dead. While the listing didn’t give much away—after all, a job ad isn’t likely to spill a studio’s secrets—a new clue might have slipped through the cracks. As picked up by MP1st, a resume from an actor known for doing motion capture work across popular titles hints at something big. This actor has worked on games like Gears of War, Dead by Daylight, and a mysterious Star Wars project, probably Battlefront since it’s an EA product. Hidden among these projects was a title called Gobi 2 from Turtle Rock Studios. For those unfamiliar, Gobi was the internal codename for the original Back 4 Blood, so it’s a fair guess that Gobi 2 might be the next installment of the franchise. Sure, it’s a bit cheeky to keep the codename so similar, just tacking a ‘2’ onto it, but here we are.
While this is all guesswork at the moment, the actor’s involvement with other major games gives some credence to the speculation of working on something noteworthy from Turtle Rock. Adding to the intrigue, a domain for Back 4 Blood 2 got registered back in May and remains active, which lends even more weight to the sequel theory. Unless someone cheekily nabbed the domain, the pieces seem to fit together for a follow-up game.
Although Back 4 Blood didn’t blow everyone away initially, we’re seeing more fans warming up to it over time. Our reviewer, Sherif, was on board from the start, proving that there’s definitely a loyal fanbase waiting to see what Turtle Rock cooks up next.
