Green Hell VR, developed by Incuvo, has been a go-to survival game, popular for its intense open-world environment. At long last, its much-anticipated co-op mode is landing this month for players on Quest and PSVR 2, adding a new layer of excitement to the gameplay.
Originally teased back in April of this year, this co-op feature is set to be available from December 16th. The best part? It’s a free update for everyone who already owns the game on PSVR 2 and Quest platforms, namely Quest 2, 3, and 3S.
In this multiplayer setting, the game aims to expand on its infamous solo challenges, allowing groups of up to four to tackle the wilds together. Equipped with both melee and ranged weapons, players work as a team to hunt for food, guard against dangerous wildlife, and construct shelters against harsh environmental threats. What’s even cooler is that if a player gets injured, you’ll visually see who needs aid, providing a way for companions to literally pick off leeches or assist in healing.
However, there’s a bit of a hiccup: the co-op update doesn’t support cross-play. This means players on different platforms like PC and VR, or even between Quest and PSVR 2, won’t be able to join each other’s games. The team explained in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, that their main focus was developing the multiplayer experience, and adding cross-play would have delayed the process further. Still, they promised not to forget about it entirely for future considerations.
Incuvo’s CEO, Andrzej Wychowaniec, shared, “Bringing co-op to Meta Quest and PSVR2 is extremely important to our VR community, and we know they have been waiting for this feature since we first launched the game on those platforms. Still, we had to ensure it lived up to their expectations for an immersive, co-op survival experience.”
As for the SteamVR crowd, there’s no word yet if they’ll get the co-op update. The PC VR version hasn’t seen much love lately, with its last update being over a year ago. The studio has been focusing more on rolling out the ‘Spirits of Amazonia Part I’ expansion for Quest and PSVR 2, leaving its Steam counterpart somewhat neglected. Time will tell if Steam players will join the co-op adventure.
