Recent data from Amazon US indicates that the Quest headsets didn’t have as strong a Black Friday and Cyber Monday in 2024 as they did in 2023.
According to the figures, around 170,000 Quest headsets were sold during the 30 days surrounding Black Friday and Cyber Monday in 2023. Fast forward to 2024, and that number dipped to roughly 146,000, marking a 14% drop. It’s worth noting these numbers are specific to Amazon US and may not reflect sales across other retailers.
This decline is particularly surprising given that Meta rolled out the much-anticipated Quest 3S, slashed the price of Quest 3, and launched a major game, Batman: Arkham Shadow, all just in time for the shopping rush.
Back in 2023, Meta was still pushing sales of the older Quest 2 model. The Black Friday deal that year featured the 128GB version for a mere $250, sweetened further by a $50 gift card, effectively bringing its cost down to $200.
Despite being more than appealing, last year’s promotion seemed to overshadow this year’s offer, which pitched the Quest 3S (128GB) at $300 with a $75 gift card, making it effectively $225.
Even though the price difference isn’t substantial, the Quest 3S offers impressive value surpassing the $25 bump. Yet, pricing isn’t the sole consideration—wider economic conditions, offers from rival companies, and shifting interest in VR play a big part as well.
As for the sales balance between the Quest 3S and Quest 3 during this year’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the headsets maintained a ratio of about 3:1. Interestingly, this reflects the same proportion seen between Quest 2 and Quest 3 in the previous year.
