As HoYoverse builds upon the incredible success of Genshin Impact through their new titles like Honkai Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero, several contenders are rising to the occasion. Among them, joining the likes of Wuthering Waves and Tower of Fantasy, is Arknights: Endfield—a 3D anime action game rooted in the universe of the popular mobile tactical RPG. Initially teased in 2022, a brand-new beta test for Endfield is slated to hit PCs next month, and you can sign up now to potentially participate.
In Arknights: Endfield, the beloved world and cast from the original Arknights game are transformed into a fully-realized 3D action RPG, drawing inspiration from the likes of Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves. If the original gacha game isn’t on your radar, it spotlights a variety of slick anime characters, or ‘operators,’ that you strategically place on a grid-like battlefield to fend off waves of adversaries—a gameplay style reminiscent of tower defense games. With Arknights approaching its fifth anniversary on the global stage, Gryphline, the studio behind it, has an extensive library of stories, characters, and settings to draw from—and they’re putting these resources to excellent use.
A new trailer offers a tantalizing peek at Endfield’s action-packed gameplay. Iconic figures, like the red-haired powerhouse Surtr, come to life in breathtaking 3D, surely giving Arknights enthusiasts plenty to cheer about. The combat appears exhilarating for anyone searching for the next standout squad-based action game. From what we’ve seen in previous alpha tests, which showcased some intense boss battles, it looks like this latest footage is continuing that pulse-pounding narrative.
I’ve been keeping an eye on this one for quite a while. I’ve always admired Arknights from afar, even though mobile gaming isn’t quite my forte. Yet, given how much I’ve enjoyed Zenless Zone Zero on PC this year, I’m thrilled at the prospect of diving into Endfield. The blend of urban and sci-fi aesthetic, combined with combat that looks rewarding and requires skill—rather than just frenzied button-mashing—is hitting all the right notes for me. I’m excited to try it out in 2025, and you can also register for a chance to jump in.
The beta test for Arknights: Endfield is scheduled for mid-January 2025 and will be available exclusively on PC. To get involved, you’ll need to register and complete a survey. If you’re interested, follow the instructions here—be ready to provide some info about your system specifications and gaming habits, and you’ll hear back via email if you’re selected for the trial.
