In a significant shift for PlayStation Plus members, one of their key advantages is set to change within the next year. Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed that PS4 games will no longer be a central part of the subscription benefits. Instead, titles for the older generation platform will now only make occasional appearances through PS Plus’ Monthly Games and Game Catalog features.
In a blog post on PlayStation’s official site, the company explained that the decision stems from an increasing number of gamers transitioning to the PS5. With this shift, Sony plans to concentrate its online gaming subscription service on bringing games primarily for the current generation console. Although PS4 titles will still pop up sporadically through the Monthly Games and Game Catalog perks, the primary focus will pivot to PS5 starting January 2026. It’s essential to note that any PS4 games already claimed by users will remain unaffected by this new strategy.
Adam Michel, the SIE director of game services, elaborated on the evolution of the service, stating, “As many of our players are currently engaging with PS5 and leaning toward accessing and redeeming PS5 titles through the Monthly Games and Game Catalog benefits, PlayStation Plus is adapting to these preferences. From January 2026, our focus will lean more heavily on PS5 offerings through these benefits. While PS4 games will not be a key feature, they may still appear occasionally in our catalog. We could still see titles playable on both PS4 and PS5 consoles beyond this change.”
Michel further reassured fans, noting, “This adjustment won’t impact any PS4 Monthly Games you’ve already claimed through PlayStation Plus. So long as your membership is active, you’ll retain access to those titles. Regarding the Game Catalog, PS4 games will remain playable up until they are cycled out during our regular monthly updates.”
