MultiVersus is preparing to shut down its online servers on May 30, 2025, marking the fiscal endpoint of its next season. This free-to-play combat game, which had its official debut on May 28, 2024, features a diverse cast of characters from the Warner Bros. universe, including iconic figures from the likes of DC Comics and Looney Tunes.
In recent times, the realm of live-service games has become increasingly volatile, with several high-profile titles, such as XDefiant, struggling to stay afloat amidst a challenging market. Sadly, MultiVersus now joins this roster of titles that couldn’t endure. Despite an enthusiastic response during its early access phase in July 2022, and again at launch last May, Player First Games found it difficult to retain a substantial player base. This waning interest eventually led to Warner Bros. accumulating losses surpassing $100 million by the close of 2024. Consequently, developers have decided to discontinue support for the once-promising online game.
The game’s website confirms that after Season 5, scheduled to end on May 30, 2025, at 9 AM PST / 12 PM EST, MultiVersus will no longer receive online support and will be removed from digital stores on consoles and PC. According to Warner Bros. Games, this step followed “careful consideration.” Starting January 31, players won’t be able to make purchases using real money within the game, but they can utilize any existing Gleamium balance or character tokens to access MultiVersus content before the season’s conclusion.
Though the game is going offline, there’s a silver lining for dedicated fans. Even after May 30, Single-player and co-op matches against AI will still be available. Players keen to indulge in these offline features must ensure they have the newest game version downloaded and must log in at least once during Season 5, which kicks off on February 4 at 9 AM PST / 12 PM EST.
With MultiVersus nearing its sunset, Season 5 promises to be its swan song, bringing characters like Aquaman and Lola Bunny as part of the Battle Pass and daily login rewards. This final update presents a great opportunity for players to secure the game for offline enjoyment in future skirmishes.
MultiVersus came with an engaging character roster where players could step into the shoes of Bugs Bunny, Batman, Arya Stark, Rick Sanchez, and more, each sporting distinctive moves and personalities. The game offers varied modes such as intense 1v1s, chaotic four-player frays, tactical 2v2s, and even a new PvE mode, all accessible across platforms with its cross-play and cross-progression features. Although its online journey concludes, the experience still retains its spark for localized adventures.
