Oh no. Helldivers 2’s dreaded Meridia black hole has officially consumed the planet it’s been inching towards recently—Angel’s Venture. This once-vibrant world has met a catastrophic end. In response, Arrowhead has declared a period of mourning for the unfortunate citizens who called it home.
The fate of Angel’s Venture seemed sealed when evacuation orders went out, and as feared, the enormous purple black hole that’s been creeping ominously in the direction of Super Earth wiped it from existence in a truly spectacular fashion.
In a recent tweet accompanied by a news broadcast, Arrowhead announced: “Angel’s Venture has been torn apart by the Meridian Singularity.” They continued, “Finally, the Illuminate, with their facade of intelligence and sophistication, have shown their true colors: a thirst for chaos.” In light of this, the President of Super Earth has called for a 24-hour period of Galaxy-wide mourning.
It’s a tough day to be a helldiver, especially when the destruction, albeit visually striking, meant a real tragedy. As highlighted by a Reddit user known as ‘DickBallsley,’ who many believed could save Angel’s Venture single-handedly, has now admitted: “Y’all acting as if I would let that happen,” he once declared confidently. However, in a recent post, he confessed, “I’m sorry everyone, I might have overdone it. Going all out was not the best idea. Next time I’ll read what it says on the packet, this one’s on me.”
Naturally, fellow divers couldn’t resist responding with the iconic Obi-Wan Kenobi GIF captioned, “You were the chosen one.”
As the galaxy grieves, the real challenge has only just begun. The Meridian Singularity is making a beeline for Super Earth, with several other planets in its potential path of destruction. It looks like the next mission will focus on slowing it down by fending off even more Illuminate attacks. We can only hope the second attempt will prove more successful than this initial endeavor.
