Get ready for some exciting news if you’re a fan of tactical military simulations! Onward, the intense mil-sim shooter developed by Downpour Interactive and now under the Meta umbrella, is gearing up for a long-awaited update. It’s been nearly a year since the last substantial update, but the new 2.0 version promises to be worth the wait.
Even though updates have been scarce since the studio’s significant ‘Mercenary’ update in February 2024, Onward has not been forgotten. That last update introduced a PVE mode alongside several graphic enhancements. Now, Downpour Interactive is ready to launch the highly anticipated 2.0 update. According to a recent blog post from Meta, this update is set to be the game’s “biggest ever,” bringing a wealth of new content to the table.
Among the exciting new features, players can look forward to what Meta describes as “a massive graphical overhaul” affecting both weapons and utilities. Additionally, the update will introduce a new Operator system that features 20 fresh characters, as well as brand-new map content. More details about this extensive update are expected to be released shortly, so keep an eye out!
This major development comes against a backdrop of challenging times in the gaming industry, marked by significant job cuts at Downpour Interactive last year. Dante Buckley, the visionary who founded the studio back in 2015, exited just a month before the layoffs were announced.
For those unfamiliar, Onward first hit the scene on Steam as an Early Access title in 2016 and expanded to the original Oculus Quest in 2020. The game is known for its commitment to realistic team-based tactics and a dedication to authenticity in replicating real-world weapons.
If you’re interested in diving into Onward, check it out on the Horizon Store for Quest 2 and newer models, or on Steam for PC VR headsets. It’s regularly available at the price of $25.
