Hey there! I’m Oli, and I’m super excited to share that I’m the game director at Kaizen Game Works, the creative minds behind Paradise Killer. Today’s a big day for us because we’re releasing the demo of our latest open-world adventure, Promise Mascot Agency, on the PS5!
We’ve poured our hearts into this project for quite a while and can’t wait for PlayStation fans to dive in. Honestly, PS5 is fantastic, and at Kaizen, PlayStation has always been our go-to. We’ve grown up with all the PlayStations, from the original all the way up to the PS4, and I still collect games from the PlayStation and PS2 era. Those classic games have inspired the design of Promise Mascot Agency in a big way.
I’m a huge fan of PS2 games where you can just hang out, explore, and have fun. If you haven’t tried games like Way of the Samurai, Raw Danger, Boku No Natsuyasumi, and Steambot Chronicles, you really should! They let you take your time, chat with quirky characters, and make meaningful decisions. That’s the kind of vibe we wanted to capture in our game—something fun, mysterious, and full of surprises.
In the game, you’ll step into the shoes of Michi, a former yakuza lieutenant. You’ll pair up with Pinky, a mischievous little chaos goblin, to rescue a struggling mascot agency while unraveling the mystery that landed Michi in the cursed coastal town of Kaso-Machi. The town is home to eccentric mascots and characters who have nowhere else to fit in. It’s up to Michi to rally them, help them chase their dreams, and ultimately save both the agency and his yakuza family.
Kaso-Machi is shrouded in a supernatural curse. Its towering mountain teems with spirits and gods, crafting a space rich in superstition and occult tales. In this peculiar place, Michi will tackle ghostly encounters, chase after sin talismans, and seek out the elusive Tsuchinoko creature. There’s a catch, though—the curse is dangerous for yakuza. Michi will need to solve the enigmas and conspiracy before the curse tightens its grip on him.
This project began four years ago, and we were thrilled to collaborate with Ikumi Nakamura and Mai Mattori, who helped design the characters and our unique world. Kaizen’s style mixed with Nakamura-san’s touches has resulted in something truly special. As a western company, we teamed up with Japanese artists, musicians, and writers to bring authenticity to our game world. We encouraged creative freedom among our team, enriching the game with diverse and genuine experiences.
We recently unveiled our incredible voice cast, featuring Takaya Kuroda, the voice behind Kiryu Kazuma, who steps in as Michi. Watching Kuroda-san casually arrive for auditions was a delightful surprise. He and Ayano Shibuya as Pinky bring a delightful buddy-cop dynamic to life. The game’s voice talent also marks debuts for Shuhei Yoshida and SWERY, adding even more excitement.
Despite being a small team, we’ve poured everything into crafting this whimsical, larger-than-life 20-hour open-world RPG. We’re thrilled to finally share it with you. Enjoy exploring the demo and all the cool features like the DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers on the PS5. Stay tuned for more updates about the full game release. Go ahead, explore, fulfill promises, and chase dreams!
