Numskull Games is teaming up with developers Horsefly to bring us Stratogun, a thrilling, nostalgic shoot ’em up with a modern twist—it’s launching with virtual reality support sometime later this year.
Drawing inspiration from those iconic, neon-lit arcade shooters of the 80s, Stratogun throws players right into the thick of battle, challenging them to take on wave after wave of wireframe foes. As you strive for a spot on the game’s competitive leaderboard, survival becomes more than just earning points; each victorious round lets you gather experience points to enhance your arsenal and unlock new bonuses. These upgrades are vital for strengthening your strategy in subsequent attempts.
A recent trailer paints a vivid picture of this gameplay: it shows a nimble ship maneuvering through tricky terrains brimming with chaotic bullet barrages, all while a high-energy synth soundtrack pumps in the background, enhancing the intensity of the multiplier-building action.
Stratogun will be making its debut on Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC, with VR integration available through Steam. According to Horsefly, the game is designed as ‘an ultra-fast space shooter with exceptionally responsive controls.’ They promise a gaming experience that’s ‘easy to jump into, yet challenging to master,’ keeping both newcomers and veterans on their toes.
Gamers eager to dive in won’t have to wait too long. Stratogun will be hitting PCs and consoles later this year. Meanwhile, if you can’t wait to get a taste of the action, the official Steam Next Fest demo is available now. It even includes VR support, so you can start testing your skills right away.
