Sony has announced a permanent price reduction for the PSVR 2, starting next month. This PS5 and PC-compatible VR headset will soon be available for $400.
Just about two years ago, Sony introduced the PSVR 2 with a price tag of $550. After a somewhat quiet two-year anniversary and no significant mention during its recent State of Play event, Sony is cutting the cost to $400 / €550 / £400 / ¥66,980, starting from March.
This new price point of $400 impacts both the basic PSVR bundle, which includes the headset, two Sense controllers, and headphones, as well as the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle, which originally debuted at $600 when the headset launched in February 2023.
In the past, PSVR 2 had been offered at even lower prices during certain sales, such as when the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle was discounted to $350 in November 2024. This history suggests that more enticing deals could be on the horizon.
Despite Sony highlighting some impressive PSVR 2 content as part of the pricing announcement—like Skydance’s Behemoth, Metro Awakening VR, and Alien: Rogue Incursion, along with upcoming games such as Aces of Thunder, Dreams of Another, Hitman World of Assassination, and The Midnight Walk—the company still seems hesitant to fully commit to PSVR 2 support.
Sony has released only a few first-party titles for the PSVR 2, including Horizon Call of the Mountain and VR modes for popular games like Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil Village, and the Resident Evil 4 Remake. This is a noticeable shift compared to what was available for the original 2016 PSVR, which boasted titles like Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Blood & Truth, and titles featuring VR modes like Gran Turismo Sport and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
On the plus side, Sony did provide a useful addition for PSVR 2 users by launching a $60 PC Adapter last August, allowing players to enjoy VR-ready PC titles on SteamVR like Half-Life: Alyx and Fallout 4 VR. Still, it seems this move might be part of a broader strategy to slowly separate PSVR 2 from the PS5 ecosystem.
With upcoming holiday discounts, PSVR 2 could see a considerable spike in year-over-year sales, much like the bump from this past season. Such discounts may entice more PS5 players to explore a growing library of third-party titles and acclaimed games. If we see another hefty 42% discount similar to Black Friday, the PSVR 2 could drop to just $232, making it an irresistible deal to many gamers.
