Later this month marks an emotional milestone in the gaming world as Studio Fizbin, the creative force behind Reignbreaker, prepares to close its doors for good. This poignant news broke on their website, with Game Developer highlighting the announcement. The curtain falls on the studio’s journey shortly after Reignbreaker launches on March 18th. Company founder and CEO, Alexander Pieper, shared that the closure stems primarily from Thunderful’s recent move to “significantly cut back on internal development.”
Pieper expressed the company’s struggles in today’s challenging gaming industry landscape, which has impacted many esteemed studios recently. According to him, Thunderful’s decision last November to trim internal operations, a point reiterated by Thunderful’s CEO Martin in the latest quarterly update, has had a direct impact on Studio Fizbin. Despite their efforts to find new projects post-Reignbreaker, no ventures came to fruition, leaving Pieper with the difficult choice to shut down operations.
In a heartfelt message, he extended gratitude to their fans, saying, “Thank you for your purchases, fan art, comments, reviews, passion, and your seemingly endless support.” He also acknowledged their business partners, including Medienboard, the MfG, Creative Europe, and federal funding partners, appreciating their unwavering backing.
Pieper saved his deepest thanks for the team itself. “To everyone who stood by us till the end, and those who have since moved on, thank you. At Fizbin, our games are brought to life through the talents of our team—each member has made this studio an inspiring place to tackle the industry’s toughest challenge: creating games.”
