Respawn Entertainment, the well-known developer behind several popular games, has reportedly decided to halt progress on a multiplayer first-person shooter that was in development. This news first came to light through Insider Gaming, relying on information from a LinkedIn post by a former production coordinator at Respawn. The individual mentioned that the project they’d been part of was unexpectedly canceled.
In their post, which seems to have since been removed, the former coordinator shared, “The unannounced project I’ve been working on for the last year was canceled this week, so I’m now part of the incredibly talented and kind group of professionals in the gaming industry looking for new opportunities.”
Further confirmation came from IGN, revealing that this project was indeed the first-person shooter that had been developing under Respawn’s incubator program. As a consequence of the project’s termination, a few employees have reportedly been let go, though it appears that the number of affected staff is relatively small.
This particular project was believed to have originated with team members who were previously engaged in a Star Wars first-person shooter. That game was also canceled in 2024, prompting the team to pivot toward this new venture, which unfortunately faced a similar fate.
