The Binary Mill, an indie XR studio, has some exciting news for PlayStation VR 2 enthusiasts. Their space-themed mining escapade, “Into Black,” which takes inspiration from Deep Rock Galactic, is finally stepping out of its Quest-only exclusivity. Although it originally debuted on Quest last October, this adventure, combining single-player and four-player co-op modes, has captured players’ imaginations with its resource scavenging, tool upgrades, and ship repairs. Set across more than 20 levels and diverse biomes, players must fend off various threats to gather enough parts for a safe departure from a treacherous alien planet.
Adding a new twist to the PSVR 2 launch is the ‘Singularity’ PvPvE mode. This feature pits players against up to 11 opponents in an online competitive arena. The Binary Mill tantalizingly describes this mode as a challenge where you form temporary alliances while navigating a constantly shrinking maze. The key is to collect as many valuables as possible, but a balance of risk and greed determines survival chances.
Excitingly, the team is revamping “Into Black” for this release, incorporating several cutting-edge enhancements specifically for PSVR 2. Gamers can expect remastered landscapes, improved lighting effects with capabilities like dynamic lighting and shadows, and HDR. Plus, thanks to the PS Sense adaptive triggers and the PSVR 2’s headset rumble feature, there’s a promise of more sophisticated tactile feedback.
While there’s no official confirmation about cross-play compatibility with Quest yet, we’re hopeful and have reached out to the developers for clarification. There’s also a lot of buzz about seeing a comprehensive trailer showcasing these PSVR 2 upgrades, though we’ve only glimpsed a few images and GIFs for now.
The exact release date remains under wraps, but The Binary Mill assures fans it’s on the horizon. If you’re eager to get your hands on “Into Black,” you can wishlist it on the PlayStation Store and stay tuned for updates.
