ILM and Lucasfilm are gearing up to deliver yet another captivating Star Wars experience with their latest creation, Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset.
Set to be released exclusively for Meta Quest 3 and 3S, this new adventure transports players back to the universe set around the same time as the Han Solo origin tale, Solo: A Star Wars Story, which hit the screens in 2018.
Even though details are still scarce, there’s some exciting buzz about the game incorporating a healthy dose of podracing action. ILM has hinted that players will get to meet the podracing character, Volo Bolus, teaming up with the famed Sebulba for what promises to be a pulse-racing, engine-revving mixed reality encounter.
Given that it’s labeled a ‘Playset’, fans can likely anticipate a range of mixed reality mini-games, though ILM has kept a tight lid on specifics beyond the initial tease.
ILM is known for its strategic, slow release of information, meticulously unveiling characters and game specifics over time. As of now, there’s no official release date or teaser trailer, but that’s sure to change soon.
The anticipation is building, especially since Meta has announced that attendees at the Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo, Japan, happening from April 18-20, will get a first taste of the game. There, more than a dozen demo stations will give fans a deeper dive, with the opportunity to also explore earlier VR titles like Vader Immortal and Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.
Why the focus on mixed reality, you ask? Jose Perez III, the Director of Star Wars: Beyond Victory, explained that mixed reality offers an unparalleled level of immersion. It allows players to bring the vast and exciting Star Wars universe straight into their living rooms in a way that’s completely groundbreaking.
It likely helps that Meta is backing the development of this mixed reality adventure, much like they have with ILM’s previous ventures into the Star Wars VR realm through the years.
