Today, Bungie gave us an exciting peek into their upcoming extraction shooter game, Marathon. We’ve finally got a detailed look at the gameplay, and it’s been confirmed that the game will make its debut on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on September 23rd, 2025.
In Marathon, players dive into the action as a Runner, essentially cybernetic mercenaries each with their own distinct abilities. You can team up with two others, forming a squad of three, and together you’ll tackle a range of challenges. Expect to face off against AI-controlled security forces and compete against other teams of Runners. As you navigate through these encounters, you’ll gather various weapons, implants, and equipment. The key is to survive, because everything you manage to acquire is yours to keep for future expeditions.
A typical match involves dropping into a zone where the objective is simple yet daunting: loot as much as possible and make it out alive. You’ll need to strategize to handle threats from both AI forces and other teams. Survive the ordeal, and you reap the rewards of your hard-earned loot. For those looking for a more intense experience, Marathon offers the thrill of playing solo, where you can challenge entire teams alone and secure all the loot by yourself.
To get a sense of the game’s vibe, you can check out the Marathon Gameplay Reveal Trailer above. For a deeper dive, there’s also a more comprehensive Gameplay Overview Trailer below. Although it’s still in the early stages, Marathon already seems quite promising!
The game might not be out for a while, but there’s good news for eager fans. If you’re ready to get a taste of the action sooner, there’s a Closed Alpha starting on April 23rd. To be part of it, just pop over to the official Marathon Discord server to sign up.
