Nintendo has just shared some exciting news about the much-anticipated Switch 2. Fans in the United States can start placing their pre-orders on April 24. Interestingly, the pricing hasn’t changed from the initial announcement. You can snag the base system for $449.99, or opt for the bundle that includes Mario Kart World, priced at $499.99.
Initially, pre-orders faced a hiccup due to considerations around tariffs and shifts in market conditions, prompting a delay soon after the console’s big reveal.
However, if you’re looking to enhance your gaming experience with some Switch 2 accessories, brace yourself for a slight price hike. A new pair of Joy-Con 2 controllers, which were originally tagged at $89.99, are now set at $94.99. Likewise, the Pro Controller will see an increase, jumping from $79.99 to $84.99. Other accessories like the camera, dock set, wheel set, and charging grips are also experiencing similar bumps in price.
Nintendo did mention in their announcement that future pricing for their products might adjust further, depending on how the market evolves.
Mark your calendars for June 5, when the console is officially set to launch!
Originally, the pre-order date was supposed to be April 9. The delay happened to coincide with President Donald Trump’s announcement of new tariffs on that same day. On April 9, Trump declared a temporary 90-day hold on many tariffs, excluding a bump in tariffs on products from China.
Fortunately, the excitement surrounding Nintendo’s games like Mario Kart World and the upcoming Donkey Kong Bananza, scheduled for a July 17 release, won’t be diminished by any price changes. They stay steady at $79.99 and $69.99, respectively.
With the Switch 2, gamers can look forward to several upgrades over its predecessor. Notable enhancements include a larger HDR-supporting display, an additional USB Type-C port, and a more robust Nvidia graphics chip.
While the $449.99 price tag might seem steep compared to the original Nintendo Switch, which debuted at $299.99, it reflects the system’s advanced features. Despite some fans urging Nintendo to consider a price cut, the company expressed their regret for the delays and hope to alleviate any unease their customers might feel during this period.
