NVIDIA and AMD are gearing up to compete fiercely in the affordable GPU space, with both companies planning to launch new models in May targeting mainstream users.
NVIDIA & AMD Set to Take Over the Mid-Range GPU Market with the RTX 5060 & RX 9060 XT
For those looking to upgrade without breaking the bank, options are quite limited right now. NVIDIA’s latest generation cards have been tough to find, leading to prices soaring above the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP). AMD faces a similar situation with high demand for the RX 9070 series, making it rare to snag one at MSRP. But there’s good news on the horizon. According to a report by Benchlife, both companies are planning to introduce new models next month that aim to capture the mainstream segment.
NVIDIA, often referred to as Team Green, is expected to release its GeForce RTX 5060 by May 19. This card is rumored to feature 8 GB of GDDR7 VRAM, clocking in at 28 Gbps over a 128-bit memory bus. There’s quite a jump in power consumption too, with a 35W increase in TDP compared to the RTX 4060. Here’s how the RTX 5060 stands out compared to its predecessors:
- 25% More CUDA Cores
- Same Memory Capacity
- Faster GDDR7 Memory (28 Gbps)
- Increased Bandwidth (+64%)
- 30% Higher Power Rating
On the AMD side, enthusiasts are looking forward to the Radeon RX 9060 XT, which is set to be revealed at Computex on May 21, though it might hit shelves as late as June. Featuring the Navi 44 die on a 128-bit bus, this card will come in both 8GB and 16GB versions, much like NVIDIA’s RTX 5060 Ti. The RX 9060 XT is expected to have 2,048 streaming processors, about half of what’s found in the Radeon RX 9070 XT, with game clock speeds of 2620 MHz and boost clocks up to 3230 MHz. This should make it a formidable option for 1080p and 2K gaming.
We’ll be covering the exciting launches from NVIDIA and AMD live at Computex 2025, bringing you firsthand insights and early previews if possible. The competition in the mid-range GPU market is heating up, and May might just be a pivotal month.
