Let’s delve into Horde Assault, one of the standout features of the remastered edition, offering an invigorating survival arcade experience. Before immersing yourself in the chaos, check out the gameplay trailer to see the mode in action.
What is Horde Assault Mode?
Horde Assault introduces a fresh twist to the traditional gameplay, challenging you to rack up high scores while weathering relentless waves of larger hordes and daunting foes like Breakers, Reachers, and Rager bears. It’s a relentless battle where the environment shifts, becoming more treacherous with each passing moment. Capturing the essence of "This World Comes For You," Horde Assault distills Days Gone’s signature open-world gameplay into a mode that keeps you engaged endlessly. Ready to assert dominance over those Freakers? Here’s your chance.
You’ll kick things off in Cascade armed with just a sidearm, battling your way through the initial onslaught to reach your indispensable Drifter bike. Within this vast region, Supply Boxes scatter the landscape, holding weapons essential for your survival, including a brand-new flamethrower, a weapon not featured in the Story mode. Each start offers a unique chance as weapon drops from these boxes are completely random, resetting with every new beginning.
While fending off hordes and managing limited ammo supplies, completing Side Jobs will become your lifeline, rewarding you with resources and additional experience points crucial to your survival. It’s not just about fighting—you’ll need strategy, as running low on resources with 800 Freakers in hot pursuit isn’t ideal. Survive for 30 minutes, and brace yourself for the arrival of the Ultimate Horde—a relentless force determined to track you down. But that’s enough detail for now; you’ll have to experience the rest firsthand.
Survive
As you progress, unlock exclusive in-mode rewards, including never-played characters, cosmetic patches, and game-altering Injectors that dramatically enhance your gameplay. Fans of the original game will recognize Injectors, now revamped for Horde Assault with new modifiers. With 24 unique Injectors—12 Positive and 12 Negative—you can tailor your experience, gaining advantages in some areas at the expense of others. It’s a strategic tug-of-war, where every choice impacts your survival odds.
Let’s take a glimpse at a couple of Injectors:
- Exploding Freakers: Enemies explode upon death, a handy trick to thin out those massive hordes.
- Wanted: Begin at maximum heat level, ensuring a challenging fight from the very start—only those with true grit will withstand this test.
During your Horde Assault journey, you’ll navigate a Reward path of 35 levels, each offering benefits such as Injectors, new character skins, and patch cosmetics. Included also are six previously unplayable characters such as O’Brian, Lisa, and fan favorite Skizzo. Reintroducing patches—purely cosmetic this time—players can flaunt them alongside their achievements. Each patch earned in Horde Assault is also applicable in the story mode. There are bonuses for meeting various target scores, possibly rewarding a much-requested item related to your bike.
Horde Assault offers endgame content seamlessly available from the moment you launch Days Gone Remastered. While newcomers might benefit from getting familiar with the game’s basics first, there’s nothing standing in the way of jumping straight into Horde Assault. It promises over 10 hours of exhilarating gameplay, serving as a formidable addition to an already rich gaming package.
