Today, Devolver Digital is making waves once again with their tongue-in-cheek Devolver Delayed Awards. This unique and pre-recorded “awards” show humorously highlights three of their games that have been pushed back to a 2025 release.
In true Devolver fashion, the event is peppered with their trademark wit, applauding developers who dared to move their projects to the next fiscal year. Here’s a peek at the winners and those amusing (imaginary) nominees:
– Best Inadvertent Tripping Simulator
– Best Late-Stage Capitalism Roguelite
– Best Glass Demon in a Leading Role
Alongside these playful categories, featuring entirely fictional games—I mean, who wouldn’t want to try out Windshield Repair Simulator?—the awards also showcased messages from the creators behind the genuinely delayed titles. All these games are on track for a 2025 launch. A quick side note: Skate Story’s Sam Eng found himself sidelined with a broken arm, so let’s be patient and cut them some slack!
Reflecting on previous antics, Devolver pulled a similar stunt back in 2023, parodying the Nintendo Direct format. During last year’s Devolver Delayed Showcase, they announced delays for games such as The Plucky Squire, Stick It to the Stickman, Anger Foot, Pepper Grinder, and yes, Skate Story as well.
Delays might be frustrating from a business perspective, but it’s refreshing to see Devolver give developers the breathing room needed to fully realize their creative visions rather than compromising quality for a swift release.
While there’s anticipation for upcoming games, Devolver Digital’s site hints at exciting yet undated projects like Possessor(s), Tenjutsu, Human Fall Flat 2, and Forestrike, all stirring curiosity with no fixed launch dates yet.
