Hey Splitgate fans, great news! The much-anticipated sequel to this viral shooter sensation is gearing up, and they’re accepting sign-ups for playtesting.
Once in a while, a shooter game bursts onto the scene and creates a buzz despite not having a massive lead-up. Splitgate did just that in 2021 with its indefinite beta launch, although it wasn’t completely new since it had already been in early access for a couple of years. Fast forward to the following year, upon its official release, developer 1047 Games dropped a bombshell—they were halting the development of new features for what many saw as a blend between Halo and Portal. Why? They were shifting their focus to crafting a sequel using the powerful Unreal Engine 5.
Earlier this year, we got the official nod about this new project, with a release window aimed for 2025. And now, if you’ve been keeping an eye on Splitgate’s official Twitter feed, you’d know they’ve opened up sign-ups for the forthcoming playtest.
The tweet enthusiastically announced, “Suit up and get ready for more Splitgate 2! The team’s been cooking up something explosive and we’re excited to get your feedback.” Signing up is a breeze—you simply fill out a Google form. It asks the usual questions like whether you played the original Splitgate, recent shooters you’ve enjoyed, and your chosen gaming platform.
However, a heads-up: they do request your Steam and Discord usernames. This is likely because the playtest will take place through Steam. So, if you value your privacy and don’t feel comfortable sharing these details, you might need to sit this one out.
On a related note, our colleague Connor had an insightful chat back in September with 1047 Games’ CEO. They discussed how the team intends to keep the sequel exciting and what valuable insights they’ve drawn from classics like Halo Reach. Definitely worth the read!
