Virtuix has exciting news for fans of its Omni One VR treadmill system: they’re introducing a new immersive tourism app that gives you the chance to virtually walk through some of the world’s most famous locations.
On March 6th, they’re launching TREKS, an app that pairs immersive video with actual walking, allowing users to explore places like the breathtaking Grand Canyon, the bustling Central Park in New York, or the historic Fort Masmak in Riyadh. This new offering comes from Virtuix Studios, the company’s in-house development team, and will be exclusively available on the Omni One Game Store for $30.
Initially, TREKS will offer four spectacular destinations for users to explore:
- Grand Canyon: Stroll along the trails and take in the breathtaking views of this natural marvel.
- Niagara Falls: Witness the impressive might of the falls from both the American and Canadian perspectives.
- New York City: Visit iconic sites such as the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Central Park, and the Brooklyn Bridge.
- Saudi Arabia: Immerse yourself in the rich history of Fort Masmak and marvel at the architectural beauty of Al Rajhi Mosque.
Virtuix Studios is already planning more locations, set to be released as downloadable content (DLC) over the coming months. These additions are expected to feature a mix of new landmarks, historic sites, and natural wonders. Plus, there’s a fitness perk: the company states that one hour of walking in TREKS can burn about 500 calories.
“With TREKS, you’re not just observing these destinations—you’re actually traveling through them,” says Jan Goetgeluk, CEO of Virtuix. “It’s a perfect blend of staying active and exploring the globe’s iconic locales. It makes fitness fun by combining it with adventure in a novel experience.”
For those considering the system, the Omni One sells for $3,495 and includes the VR treadmill along with a customized Pico 4 Enterprise headset. This device supports both its internal apps and those run on a VR-ready PC, whether wired or wirelessly.
This launch follows last month’s announcement that Omni One now supports over 55 titles, including popular games such as Arizona Sunshine Remake, Arizona Sunshine 2, and Into The Radius. Thanks to its Omni Connect PC Driver, the system is also compatible with SteamVR games. This feature enables users to customize controls and tweak settings, ensuring a seamless experience even with games not originally designed for VR walking.
