Janos Flösser, who once led the charge at IO Interactive, the creative minds behind Hitman, has announced an exciting new venture: Wombo Games. This fresh studio is hard at work on a new strategy roguelike, Raiders of Blackveil, which they plan to roll out in Early Access this summer.
Wombo Games came into existence in 2023, marking a new chapter for Flösser. He first made waves at IO Interactive, serving for nearly a decade from 1998 to 2008, before taking on the role of chief creative officer at Square Enix. His journey then led him to Crey Games, where he took the helm as CEO. Beyond these roles, Flösser also became a partner, later a senior partner, at Promentum Capital.
In a conversation with GamesBeat, Flösser shared, “We aimed to keep the studio small and agile, just to see how far we could stretch our capabilities.” He elaborated on the studio’s journey, “We secured funding and kicked things off in July 2023, so we’re nearing our two-year mark. Impressively, within the first six weeks, we had a playable version. Our investors got hooked early on, and their enthusiasm hasn’t waned since. It’s the first time I’ve seen investors so passionate about both the team and the concept. Over the last two years, we’ve successfully raised funds on three occasions. Right now, our main focus is crafting the perfect game for our audience.”
