February 2025 might not be bursting with blockbuster video game releases, especially since one anticipated title got pushed back, but there’s still exciting news on the gaming front. The quirky and exciting “Keep Driving” is set to make its debut. This intriguing driving RPG puts a unique spin on gaming by blending traditional driving mechanics with a turn-based combat system, all while you gather resources along the journey.
If you haven’t heard about this captivating little gem yet, let me fill you in. I had the chance to try out its demo during Steam Next Fest last year, and it was a genuinely refreshing experience. The premise is deceptively simple: you’re on a road trip to a friend’s house, but there’s a twist. Both you and your vehicle have to ride through various challenges, like fighting off potential road threats or managing basic human needs such as food and rest as you make the trip.
Now, mark your calendars for February 6—this is when the complete version of Keep Driving becomes available for PC on Steam, as announced by the Swedish developers, YCJY Games, in a charming tweet.
They’ve also released a brand-new trailer, showcasing those engaging turn-based skirmishes featuring tractors, sheep, and potholes. The preview gives a sneak peek of the different cars you can collect, each filled with essentials for you, your vehicle, and any hitchhikers who tag along. While I got attached to the demo’s not-quite-Volvo, I must confess that cruising around in a pickup truck awakens a certain Johnny Cash-loving part of me.
Initially, Keep Driving will be exclusive to PC, but there’s hope for console gamers—they’ve hinted that it’s likely to join the console ranks later on, although nothing’s firmly set aside from a hopeful nod towards the Switch. Personally, I’d love to see it on PS2, just to seamlessly switch between indulging in this and revisiting Need For Speed Underground.
As we await its full launch, let’s hope Keep Driving revs up the delightful vibes that made the demo such a joy.
