Ever since Arrowhead, the developers of Helldivers 2, introduced the Killzone crossover content, players have been less than thrilled with the steep pricing. In a move to placate disgruntled fans, the development team has decided to offer the second batch of collaborative items free of charge.
Previously, players were troubled by the high cost of the new Killzone-themed assault rifle and armor set, which were priced in super credits and not bundled as a warbond. The reaction was not favorable.
Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani and Johan Pilestedt took to social media to discuss and defend their pricing strategy, but the team ultimately decided to take action aimed at regaining the community’s trust. As a gesture of goodwill, they’ve announced that the new collaborative items, initially slated for release on December 23, will now be available as a complimentary holiday gift.
Through a message on Steam, Arrowhead expressed that this was their first attempt at crossover content, and they’re eager to incorporate player feedback. They acknowledged the widespread desire for crossover content but recognized that the pricing wasn’t well received and promised to re-evaluate it.
Their comprehensive post also addressed player concerns about the limited availability of these exclusive items, which bypassed the conventional Warbond system. In response, Arrowhead decided to give the next set of gear to everyone for free, to be released in two phases. They’ve also extended the duration of items showcased in the Superstore from five to ten days, reducing the pressure players may feel about missing out.
Furthermore, the team is exploring options to make these items return permanently. Players will soon have the opportunity to unlock the W.A.S.P. stratagem through a major order in the game.
While there’s still work to do in finding a fair pricing strategy that works for both Arrowhead and the gaming community, this move is a step in the right direction. Tis the season of giving, and this offering is intended to roll back some of the ill will generated by the initial pricing decisions.
