While Microsoft has been surrounded by whispers about an Xbox handheld device, it seems any official word won’t surface this year. However, fans might want to keep their eyes peeled for a potential announcement come 2025. This buzz began when Phil Spencer, Microsoft’s head of gaming, alluded to the idea earlier in the year, stirring up quite the intrigue.
These insights came from the Xbox Two podcast on YouTube, where journalist Jez Corden spiced up the speculation by suggesting that new Xbox hardware could make an appearance next year. Addressing the odds of this being unveiled at the Game Awards, Corden clarified that there are no plans for any hardware announcements at the December 2024 event.
Corden shared, “I don’t think you’re gonna see hardware at The Game Awards, but, I do think next year is a good year for revealing new hardware. Especially hardware you could hold in the palm of your hand.” He added there’s a chance that we might get a sneak peek at the Microsoft June showcase next year. Keep in mind, though, that these are still just whispers, as Xbox hasn’t officially confirmed anything yet.
In related news, there’s something fresh on the Microsoft front: the latest update to their Prism emulator, specifically the preview build 27744. This update broadens the horizon by making it possible to run more 64-bit x86 (x64) games and software. It’s a notable upgrade with added support for elements like AVX, AVX2, BMI, FMA, F16C, and more. Thanks to this, games such as Helldivers 2 and Starfield, which rely on AVX2, can now be enjoyed.
