Having just wrapped up his return as the iconic villain Dr. Robotnik in Sonic 3, Jim Carrey is already contemplating a comeback for possible future Sonic films, like a potential Sonic 4. Carrey seems open to more Robotnik antics if the upcoming project seems enticing and enjoyable to him.
Carrey’s reappearance in Sonic 3 marked a brief departure from his semi-retired status. On the red carpet, he humorously revealed that his return was spurred by the need to finance some of his recent purchases. Previously, Carrey had jokingly claimed he’d only consider un-retiring for a script that seemed heaven-sent and truly meaningful to audiences.
In a chat with the Japanese YouTube channel Cinema Today, Carrey shared his thoughts on revisiting his role in future Sonic films: “I’m definitely open. They usually bring me the next concept, and if I think, ‘that sounds fun,’ I’ll do it. I’m not tied to anything unless it truly interests me.”
He expressed admiration for the film crew and the enthusiastic fans: “I love this crew, I love this gang, and I adore the fans. There’s just such fantastic energy and responses. Fans have been incredibly helpful with their suggestions. It’s like we’re all crafting this movie together.”
During the conversation, Carrey humorously mentioned his habit of taking ‘power-rests’ between projects, flaunting a comical expression that, while maybe not quite a match for his famous Grinch face, is still very entertaining and merits an 8 out of 10.
If nothing else, these lighthearted moments are a welcome distraction from revisiting some of Carrey’s more controversial stances, such as his past views on vaccines or his foray into the NFT world.
Switching gears to some additional Sonic the Hedgehog 3 news, writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller recently toyed with the idea of which other games they’d be keen to adapt for the big screen.
