In the latest video update, Marvel Rivals’ creative director, Guangyun Chen, announced some exciting changes: the game will soon start introducing a new superhero each month as it shortens the duration of its seasons.
With the launch of season 3, the shift will see Marvel Rivals’ seasons down to just two months, unlike the current three-month cycle. This means players can look forward to fresh heroes being unveiled both at the beginning of the season and midway through it.
Chen elaborated, “After extensive discussion and thorough evaluation, we’ve decided that starting from season 3, the seasons will adopt a two-month format, welcoming a new hero every month.”
Adapting to this quicker pace will mean adjustments, especially in how players earn in-game currency and unlock cosmetics through the battle pass. Chen assured fans that these specifics will be sorted out and shared ahead of season 3’s release, anticipated in early July.
This accelerated pace for rolling out new characters will leapfrog Marvel Rivals ahead of its main competitor, Overwatch 2. Unlike Blizzard, which sticks to a roughly six-month timeline for new hero releases, Marvel Rivals is set to keep things fresh with more frequent additions. Case in point, season 1 saw the introduction of the entire Fantastic Four, but as NetEase Games pointed out, that was a special instance. Going forward, it’s all about adding two heroes each season.
Fans can mark their calendars for April 11, when season 2 kicks off with Emma Frost joining the game. Ultron is slated to make his entrance with the midseason update in June. Plus, the new season will introduce team-up abilities, the option to gift cosmetics, recolored popular skins, and a slew of balance updates, ensuring plenty of fresh content and enhancements for players to dive into.
