Sanzaru Games, the creative minds behind the Asgard’s Wrath series, have officially wrapped up their work on the Quest-exclusive Asgard’s Wrath 2 released in 2023. The team is now hinting at what they call the “next big thing.”
According to MIXED, Sanzaru has released the final major update for Asgard’s Wrath 2, a thrilling action-adventure sequel that follows the studio’s legendary Rift-exclusive title, Asgard’s Wrath, which came out in 2019.
The game’s twelfth and last ‘Cosmic Event,’ aptly named ‘The Long Winter,’ kicked off last week. It brings with it another batch of time-restricted challenges where players can earn points and unlock exclusive cosmetic items.
Asgard’s Wrath 2 hit the virtual shelves in late 2023, ready for Quest 2 and newer models. It offers an impressive 60-plus hours of campaign play, not even counting the time you might spend tackling the monthly Cosmic Events.
In a straightforward announcement on Sanzaru’s Discord, the game’s Community Manager shared, “This will be our last significant update for Asgard’s Wrath 2. Going forward, updates will be fewer and only target critical issues and bug reports. There won’t be any further development on new content for Asgard’s Wrath 2. We’ve heard the community’s requests and wanted to be transparent about this decision.”
The studio added that they’re now shifting gears to work on what they describe as “AWESOME stuff.” They’re quite excited to eventually unveil their upcoming projects to the community.
What Sanzaru has up their sleeve remains a mystery, but after being acquired by Meta (formerly Facebook) in 2020, they’ve been focusing solely on developing exclusive titles for the company’s XR headset lineup. Given their success with two major RPG titles, they seem well-equipped to tackle whatever’s next.
