Microsoft has recently acknowledged that the latest update to Windows 11, version 24H2, is inadvertently causing problems for a number of Ubisoft titles, including popular games like Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. This confirmation has left many gamers scratching their heads as they experience unexpected interruptions.
According to VGC’s report, Microsoft has taken measures by updating its support site, where it explains the temporary block it’s placed on Windows 11 upgrades for users who have these games installed. This move aims to prevent further complications while the issue is being addressed.
Microsoft detailed the situation by stating, “After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might run into trouble with certain Ubisoft games.” Players might face difficulties as these games could become non-responsive when they try to start them up, load content, or even during gameplay itself.
In more severe instances, users have reported encountering black screens. The games affected include some of Ubisoft’s top titles such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
To protect the users’ experience with Windows updates, Microsoft has decided to apply a compatibility hold for devices with these games. Consequently, these users won’t receive the option to install the Windows 11, version 24H2 update through the regular Windows Update channel.
Meanwhile, Ubisoft has attempted to tackle the problem by rolling out a fix for Star Wars Outlaws through its significant Title Update 1.4. However, Microsoft has noted that players may still confront issues despite these efforts. No specific date has been provided for a complete resolution, so PC users who enjoy Ubisoft games are advised to hold off on updating to version 24H2 whenever possible.
