Lately, the Dragon Age: The Veilguard modding scene has been somewhat subdued, aside from mods that add a darker aesthetic or streamline character creation. Yet, it seems tides are turning with fresh mods on the scene, thanks to a new tool that’s expanding modding capabilities beyond these basics.
A quick visit to the game’s page on Nexus Mods will reveal several newly surfaced mods now in play. They’re leveraging an alpha version of the ‘Frosty Mod Manager,’ a pioneering toolkit crafted by a group of ambitious modders from the FrostyToolsuite Discord community. This tool is ushering in a new wave of more complex modifications for Veilguard.
Initially, this tool shows promise in modifying game textures—early adopters have already showcased some impressive tweaks. For instance, modder LexTypeC has integrated the iconic font from Dragon Age Origins, while Izzli has made artistic adjustments to in-game clothing. Meanwhile, sajere1 opted to use the tool to swap out Davrin’s party assembling menu image with one less intense, wherein Davrin isn’t visibly yelling.
But that’s not all. It’s also proving useful for breaking some of the game’s player-imposed boundaries. Modder Tellah9 lifted class specialization restrictions, and Yeulia streamlined the process for maxing out faction reputation.
Meanwhile, Padme4000 has taken advantage of the tool to silence the often-distracting sounds of the dialogue wheel, making your navigation through witty conversations a little more fluid.
However, there’s a hitch. Utilizing the Frosty Mod Manager asks for a specific encryption key for the game. This makes for a precarious situation in the modding world, as the creators risk legal implications if the manager is deemed to break EA/BioWare’s software encryptions. Consequently, the manager’s GitHub and mod comment sections strongly advise against pestering modders directly for the encryption key.
As always with mods, tread carefully. If safety is your priority, you might consider waiting to see if future Veilguard modder developments produce tools that don’t require such risky maneuvers. While there’s no promise of this happening soon, it’s not unheard of—just look at the developments in Baldur’s Gate 3’s modding toolkit.
