Hey there, in case you missed it, Nintendo just dropped some major updates about what’s next after the Switch.
During today’s Corporate Management Policy briefing, hot on the heels of their Q2 2024-25 financial results, Nintendo confirmed a couple of exciting details about the Switch’s successor. While the name of this new console hasn’t been revealed yet, they did share that it will fully support existing Switch software. Plus, Nintendo Switch Online will continue seamlessly on this new console.
In a tweet from Nintendo Co Ltd, Furukawa stated, “During our briefing today, we revealed that games for the Nintendo Switch will also be playable on its successor. Furthermore, Nintendo Switch Online services will be rolling over to the new platform. We’ll share more details about the successor, including how it integrates with current Switch titles, in due time.”
Now, the big question for many fans is whether this backward compatibility means strictly digital support or if the new system will also accommodate physical Switch games, like how the 3DS could play DS cartridges. We’ll have to wait for more details to be unveiled later.
