From Software has just revealed an impressive milestone: “Elden Ring” has surpassed 30 million copies sold worldwide since its launch in 2022. This places it among the giants of the gaming world, rubbing shoulders with classics like “Borderlands 2,” “Call of Duty: Black Ops,” and “Diablo 3.”
The game first hit the shelves on February 25, 2022, and later expanded with the major DLC, “Shadow of the Erdtree,” on June 21. Over these months, a staggering 30 million players across both PC and consoles have ventured into The Lands Between. It’s quite a staggering feat, especially considering the game’s famed difficulty. Players knew they’d face a challenge—and they eagerly accepted it!
Critically and commercially, “Elden Ring” has been showered with praise. Both the initial release and its expansion have received glowing reviews. The transition from the linear “Dark Souls” series to an open-world format struck gold with both fans and critics. While maintaining the signature “Dark Souls” level of challenge, the game did undergo a few nerfs and balance tweaks to ease players into its demanding world.
What can From Software do with this astounding 30 million sales figure? It’s hard to say for sure, but the company is clearly aware of its coveted status. In an exciting development, “Elden Ring Nightreign,” a spin-off cooperative game, is slated to launch soon. It will leverage much of “Elden Ring’s” world and assets, with a fresh twist. Looking ahead, it’s reasonable to expect the company to continue exploring this rich vein of success.
